At approximately 1:45 am Officer Daniel Craig was patrolling the Pearl Street lot when he located an unconscious subject on the ground in the rear Raxx Billiards – 1211 Elm Street.  The subject appeared to have been the victim of an assault.  As Officer Craig was attending to the assault victim, he heard numerous gunshots coming from the area of 44 Bridge Street, which is located just south of his location.

Officers responded to the area and encountered a large group of subjects engaged in an argument.  At some point during the argument multiple gunshots were fired by one or more subjects within the group.  The subjects fled just prior to police arrival, however police interviewed numerous witnesses in an effort to identify the shooter(s).  A large area of the Pearl Street lot was cordoned off – from the rear of 44 Bridge Street to Chestnut Street.  Detectives from the Investigative Unit responded and conducted a crime scene search.  Numerous shell casing and bullet fragments were located in the alley.  There was also bullet hole damage to several windows and the exterior wall of Member’s First Credit Union, 44 Bridge Street.

Det. Robert Freitas (left) and Det. Matthew Larochelle process the shooting scene in the alley east of the Member's First Credit Union, 44 Bridge Street.

There were no reported injuries reported from the gunshots at the scene and police searched the nearby apartment buildings and reported no injuries or damages.  The victim Officer Craig treated at the scene was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  It is believed that the assault on this victim is associated with the shooting, and as such his identity is being withheld as the investigation continues.

Police ask that anyone who may have information about this incident, to contact Detective Sergeant Capano at 668-8711 ext. 445 or Manchester Crimeline at 624-4040.
