The opioid crisis remains at the forefront of public health issues in Manchester. Substantial gains have been made in the reduction of opioid-related deaths with use of evidence-based practice and overdose prevention interventions. The Overdose Prevention outreach team provide comprehensive prevention and response strategies that decrease community stigma, connect persons to treatment and saves lives. Opioid abatement funds are used to pay for salary and benefits of the Director of Overdose Prevention and Overdose Prevention Outreach workers, also known as the Rapid Overdose Assessment Response (ROAR) Team. The ROAR Team members have lived experience and skilled in connecting individuals to recovery resources.

Get Naloxone
Naloxone (Narcan) is a medication used to reverse the effects of opioid. Narcan can save a life when given in time. If you suspect an overdose, call 911 and then administer Narcan. Narcan is available without a prescription at many pharmacies or contact The Doorway to access free Narcan.

The Health Department supports and believes in connecting individuals to services and the power of community. Treatment options are available through The Doorway or by calling 2-1-1 anytime. Language assistance is available.
The Health Department provides testing for HIV and hepatitis C during weekly sexual health clinics.
