Guiding Principles

Our Mission

MHD’s mission is to “improve the health of individuals and families in the Manchester community through disease prevention, health promotion, protection from emerging health threats, and access to high quality health care.”

Our Vision

MHD’s vision is for Manchester “to be a community where everyone can achieve optimal health.”

Our Guiding Values

Originally adopted by MHD in 2011, the following values guide what we do, how we work, and the decisions we make every day to support the health of the Manchester community and its population.

  • Embrace the broad definition of health and work to address social determinants of health.
  • Serve all people and also deliver targeted services to specific populations depending on need.
  • Seek new, adaptive, and innovative ways to carry out traditionally valued programs.
  • When implementing programs designed to change behavior, to engage community members in planning and evaluation in order to maximize effectiveness.
  • Ensure staff is competent and well-matched for their jobs.
  • We will hold ourselves accountable to relevant professional standards and Department goals.
  • Regularly evaluate all of our programs, be ever mindful of best practices, and make program improvements accordingly.
  • Assure connection between research, planning, action, and outcomes.
  • Have high standards for customer service and demonstrate respect for all those we serve.
  • Be stewards of public funds and as such to act responsibly.
