Employment Process

Join the vibrant community of the City of Manchester, a thriving hub in Southern New Hampshire. With growing opportunities in business, education, and culture, Manchester offers a diverse range of rewarding employment options dedicated to serving our residents.

Discover available positions on our website's Employment page or at the Human Resources Department in City Hall Annex. You can apply conveniently online or pick up an application at the Human Resources Department. Your application will be carefully reviewed, and qualified candidates will be contacted by the hiring department. Act fast—many positions have closing dates for applications.

At the City of Manchester, we prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion in our workforce and community. Our aim is to be a top-tier city for living, working, and visiting, drawing on our rich history of culture, education, environment, and commerce.

After submitting your application, here's what to expect:

  • Application Submission: You can attach and submit additional documents such as your resume, references, and transcripts along with your online application. Please ensure your application is complete, as incomplete submissions will not be considered further.
  • Background Checks and Exams: Conditional offers of employment are subject to passing various checks and exams relevant to the position. This may include a physical exam and/or drug and alcohol test, motor vehicle background check, financial and/or non-financial background check, and/or criminal background check.
  • Authorization and Certification: By signing the online employment application, you certify that all information provided is true. Any falsification may result in denial of employment or termination. Please note that submission of the application or an interview does not establish an employment contract, and employment is at-will. Accommodations for disabilities during pre-employment exams/tests can be requested.
  • Legal Right to Work: As per the Immigration Reform Act of 1986, proof of identity and eligibility for employment must be provided within three days of employment commencement.

We appreciate your interest in joining the City of Manchester workforce and look forward to potentially welcoming you to our team!
