Over 65 Retirees

Already Retired? This page is your guide to maintaining your benefits, staying informed, and addressing important requirements as a City of Manchester retiree.

Steps for Retirees

1. Maintain Medicare Coverage

  • Medicare Parts A and B: To remain eligible for the City’s Medicare Advantage Plan, you must maintain both Parts A and B coverage.
  • Need to Make Changes? Visit Medicare.gov or contact Social Security for in-person assistance at SSA.gov.

2. Provide Updated Medicare Information

  • Submit Medicare Changes: If there are updates to your Medicare coverage, provide HR with a copy of your updated Medicare card.

3. Stay Connected with Your Retirement System

  • NHRS or Contributory Plans: Keep your contact information current with your retirement system and notify them of any updates affecting your benefits.

4. Review Your Retiree Benefits Regularly

  • Explore Your Options: Review the current fiscal year’s NHRS and Contributory Rate Charts on the Retirement Infromation Page.
  • Under 65 vs. Over 65 Plans: Ensure your plan aligns with your age and personal circumstances. Spouses may qualify for different plans based on their age.

5. Submit Required Enrollment Forms When Needed

  • If making changes to health or dental coverage, complete the appropriate forms and submit them to Human Resources.
  • Even if declining coverage, ensure you sign the Insurance Declination Form.

6. Submit Monthly Premium Payments (Contributory Retirees Only)

  • Payment Due Date: Payments must reach HR by the first day of each month to avoid disruption in coverage.

Important Information for Retirees

  • Medicare Compliance: Your Medicare Part B must remain active to avoid penalties and retain access to the City’s health plans.
  • Spousal Coverage: Spouses can remain on the applicable Under 65 or Over 65 plans depending on their age and your enrollment.
  • Coverage Continuity: Health and dental coverage can only be reinstated if you maintain continuous employer-sponsored coverage.
  • Vision Benefits: Vision coverage is not offered for retirees, but temporary COBRA options are available.
  • Life Insurance: Basic life insurance remains active for 8 weeks post-retirement. You may port this coverage to an individual plan if desired.
