The Manchester Health Department’s Environmental Health Division helps keep childcare centers, foster homes, and schools safe and healthy for children and families.
Our Environmental Health Specialists inspect facilities to help prevent illness and injury. They also provide guidance on simple but important practices like handwashing, food safety, and sanitation.
What We Inspect
- Childcare facilities
- Foster homes
- Public and parochial schools
- Why Inspections Matter
Children spend many hours each week in care and school settings, so it is important that these spaces are clean, safe, and well-maintained. Inspections help identify health and safety concerns before they become problems.
Childcare Licensing
Childcare facilities must be inspected before the State of New Hampshire can issue or renew a license. During the inspection, we check that the facility meets State health and safety requirements for child care environments.
Foster Home Inspections
We also inspect foster homes for the Division of Child, Youth, and Families. These inspections help support safe, healthy home environments for children in care.
Request an Inspection
To request an inspection, contact the Manchester Health Department and make sure you have the required State paperwork ready before scheduling.
