At 2030 hrs on 09-25-2009, a single vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Granite Street and Main Street, resulting in serious injuries. A 2004 VW Jetta, being operated by Sheena Burgess, 23 of Peterborough, NH was traveling westerly along Granite Street, when she accelerated abruptly, jumped a raised median and crashed head-on into a traffic signal pole. Burgess had to be extricated from the wreckage by Manchester Fire Crews. Burgess and her 29 year old passenger, Zachary McCutcheon, also of Peterborough were transported by ambulance to Elliot Hospital, where she was being treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries, and McCutcheon for apparent minor injuries. Initial indications show that speed was a factor in this crash, and there was no evidence of alcohol or drug use contributing to this crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Officer Blais of the Traffic Division.
