On Sunday, October 17, 2010, the Manchester Police Athletic League will host the 4th annual Footrace for the Fallen 5K memorial road race. The event honors the memory and sacrifice of Manchester police officers killed in the line of duty. This year’s event poignantly falls on the anniversary of the death of Ofc. Michael Briggs, mortally wounded in the line of duty just four years ago.
Proceeds from the race directly benefit the Manchester Police Athletic League, a center city organization dedicated to mentoring at-risk youth. Many of the children that benefit from MPAL programs are the same young people Ofc. Briggs engaged on a daily basis in service to the community of Manchester. Shortly after his tragic death, the MPAL building was fittingly renamed after Ofc. Briggs, in recognition of his commitment to community youth.
Our road race has encountered growing success with each year and is now one of the premiere racing events in New England, with over 900 participants at last year’s event. We anticipate in excess of 1000 runners this fall, with members of our dedicated committee ensuring a quality event reputed throughout the region. Register early! The first 500 registrants will receive a free, moisture wicking, short sleeve T-shirt.
We invite any and all law enforcement officials, civilians and runners of all skill levels to participate. The 5K course is flat, fast, and US Track and Field Certified. We hope to see you at the race!
Please join us. Registration is from 8:30 to 10:30 am. The race starts at 11:00 am. You determine when it finishes!
Our race could not have been made possible without the support of our sponsors - Members First, UNH, Hannaford, BAE, Becket and Coca-Cola. Thank you for your support!
