The Board of Mayor and Aldermen have also ordered a Special Municipal Election to be held on the same day. Voters will be given a second, yellow Special Municipal Election ballot at the polls on November 4th which includes one "yes or no" question related to a proposed amendment to the City Charter.
The proposed Charter amendment will permit the Mayor and the Board of Aldermen to utilize the City's Assessor's estimate of increased property valuation since the prior year in setting their estimated tax rates for the annual budget. Estimated increases in property valuation from the prior year would include new commercial development, new residential development and significant improvements in existing commercial and residential buildings.
