Under New Hampshire law, certain older records are open to the public, while other, more recent records are only available when the applicant has a "direct and tangible interest" in the record. The individual or an immediate member of the family may obtain a copy of a vital record in this category.

The records in the Manchester City Archives are open to the public in the following categories:

To obtain a copy of a vital record, please remit a check or money order in the amount of $15.00 (payable to the City of Manchester) with a letter stating the purpose of the request and supplying all available information on the individual being researched. If the record is not found, the office will retain the $15.00 for each record requested, and notify you that the record was not found. Please enclose a copy of your photo identification.  Send to:

The Manchester City Archives does not have vital records dated earlier than 1835. We cannot give genealogical information over the telephone. If you are traveling to Manchester to do genealogical research, please call ahead to make an appointment - 603-624-6455.
