Following the results of yesterdays municipal elections here in Manchester, I would like to congratulate Ted Gatsas on his victory in his race for Mayor. Ted ran a strong campaign on the issues facing Manchester residents, and his hard work certainly warranted his victory. His experience and knowledge as both an Alderman in the city and a State Senator will surely translate to success in the Mayor’s Office.
Ted’s campaign focused on discussing economic issues with voters, their vision and ideas for the future of our city, and outlining his plans for the continued success of Manchester. I have no doubt that the next two years will be challenging, but that Ted’s leadership will continue to keep Manchester on a track for present and future success.
I am also excited that Manchester residents supported the spending cap charter amendment. The public support for this spending cap sends a clear message to our elected officials – that residents will not allow spending to go unchecked here in Manchester. This issue was promoted by a tremendous grass-roots effort, and overcame many obstacles in its effort to be placed on the ballot. I am certainly pleased both with the outcome of the referendum, as well as the fact that the issue was allowed to be rightfully determined by the will of the voter.
Finally, I would like to congratulate the new members of the Board of Aldermen and the Board of School Committee. It takes great courage to place ones name on the ballot, and while the next two years will be challenging, I have no doubt that the incoming group will do their best for the City of Manchester.
