Letter sent to Parents.
January 27, 2012
Dear Parents/Guardians,
It is hard to believe the second half of the academic year is here! Enclosed with this letter you should find your child's Quarter 2 report card. Please take this opportunity to discuss his/her progress and set up goals for the last two quarters of the year.
A great resource available to all students at Parkside is Study Island New Hampshire GLE Mastery and NECAP Preparation Program. This online program is specifically designed to help students in grades 6-8 master the content specified in the Grade Level Expectations. Study Islands focuses on the Grade Level Expectations and enables students to improve their performance in all skill areas tested on the New Hampshire NECAP. Please check studyisland.com for information regarding this program. If your child has access to the Internet at home encourage them to use this resource.
Thanks to the funds provided by the School Improvement Grant, we have been offering additional professional development to our staff such as workshops related to iPad use in the classroom, Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) and Response to Intervention (RtI) programs. As you may have heard, all of our students took brief math and reading assessments in the fall. These assessments are conducted three times per year for universal screening. The data from these examinations is being used to closely monitor each student's progress and immediate needs. The system that allows the analysis of this data is called AIMSweb. These are just a few of the implementations that will provide our teachers with tools to enrich your child's learning experience at Parkside.
This past December, Ms. Elizabeth Manchester-Murphy joined the Parkside staff as our new social worker. She is available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to assist our families with community resources in our area. We are very excited to have her working with us.
