Welcome to Parker Varney School -
“Home of the Panthers”
Principal’s Message
I would like to extend a warm welcome to all new and returning students and parents to the 2011-2012 school year at Parker-Varney Elementary School. Our enrollment this school year is approximately 540 students (PreK-5).
Parker-Varney has a talented, experienced, and dedicated school staff that is committed to providing an educational environment that provides a standards-based curriculum and incorporates research-based, best practices. Our goal is to meet the developmental and academic needs of each student, to reach their full potential.
In addition to the high academic expectations that we have for all Parker-Varney students, we have introduced our new school wide positive behavior program, also known as PBIS. This program defines classroom and school wide behaviors that support Respect, Responsibility, Consideration and Safety. A component of this program includes “Panther Pride” recognition, where students are recognized for their contributions to a positive school culture and learning environment. Ask your child about what it means to have “Panther Pride.”
Once again, City Year Corp members will be joining our staff this year. Young adults (18-24) from diverse backgrounds will work full-time at Parker-Varney providing support to students at risk in grades 3-5. In addition, they will be involved in all school-community initiatives and activities. Under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher, Corp members will provide academic support within the classroom and through after-school programs.
Parker-Varney is very proud of the programs and educational opportunities that are available to our students. I along with the staff look forward to meeting and working with you and your child, as they begin and continue in their educational journey. If you have any questions or would like to know more about Parker-Varney, please contact us at #624-6338 or email me atkturner@mansd.org. Please visit this website often to view additional programs and information. For your convenience a copy of the Student Handbook can be found on our website. If you would like a hard copy please contact or stop by the school.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Turner, Principal
