NORTHWEST LIBRARY NEWS FROM THE DESK OF MRS. KRIEGER
*Keep the learning happening at home through an easy to use website! Find links to tons of great websites to help your child learn at home while having fun!
*This new website is actually a “wiki”. A wiki is a type of website where many people can add to the content or information. Instead of just reading a website, you help create it! The philosophy behind a wiki is that a resource is better when many brains can work together instead of just one person’s knowledge. I am hoping this wiki can be a resource for students, parents, and teachers.
*Websites listed will include… sites for student reading and math practice, links to curriculum taught in the classroom, and many parent resources. Please feel free to add to this collection of resources if you know of an appropriate educational website. Directions on how to do this are posted on the wiki.
*A special section will include students reviewing books they have read through a “Book Talk”. This is a great place for students to get an idea of what good book they should read next. Listen to students actually talking and being interviewed!

Students use this wiki for a unit called "Wonders of the School." Students are challenged to solve what unknown objects are by using books from the Northwest library or discerning websites online. The goal of this unit is to teach students critical thinking skills, research skills, computer skills, and evaluate good and bad resources both in text and online. Students are welcome to work on solving the wonders at home too. Check out the items they are trying to solve and their posts and podcasts listed by grade level.
