SES Absence Policy
Attendance at SES tutoring sessions is very important for two main reasons:
1. The more consistently your child attends tutoring, the better the results!
2. There are limited funds for tutoring, and we want to pay for tutoring sessions that are actually taking place. Unexcused absences are still billed from the providers as if your child was there.
In an effort to ensure that Federal Dollars are going to pay for actual tutoring sessions and academic help for students, the Manchester School District has created an Absence Policy for SES Tutoring.
Unexcused absences occur when the Provider did not have sufficient notice that a student would be absent. Many providers require you to call by a specific time or a certain number of hours before the tutoring session. (This is defined by each individual provider – check with your child’s provider for exact definitions of an unexcused absence.)
When a child has 3 or more unexcused absences in a month of each other, this student will be placed “on hold” and any scheduled tutoring sessions will be placed on hold for two weeks. Parents will be notified that their child has been placed on hold. During this time, parents must contact the District SES Coordinator or SES Contact at their school to request an appeal to have tutoring reinstated. All decisions about reinstating students in SES is at the discretion of the District SES Coordinator.
Students who have five total unexcused absences (regardless of when they occur) will be removed from tutoring. These students will not be granted an appeal.
