Changing Lives Through Balance
Upcoming Events and Program News
- The third session begins on Februrary 6th! We will be posting flyers for all of our elementary and middle school programs over the upcoming weeks, so keep an eye out and sign your child up for classes as soon as possible.
- The 21st CCLC program is back in session! We returned to the classroom on January 3rd . Our next scheduled non-program day is Febraury 7th, in recognition of the early release day. We hope to see you or your children at one of our twelve sites this winter.
- We are excited to announce that the City of Manchester has allocated $25,000 to the Manchester 21st CCLC Program through the Community Improvement Program (CIP). These CIP funds are used to power Project iSucceed, a program to increase the capabilities of our homework club and to provide additional academic resources. Project iSucceed is active at Bakersville, Beech, Gossler, McDonough, McLaughlin, and Wilson and has directly assisted over one hundred fifty students thus far. If you have any questions about Project iSucceed in your student's school, please contact your site's coordinator.
- The 21st CCLC participated in the 2011 "Granite State Credit Union Spirit of New Hampshire Christmas Parade" on December 3, 2011. Program staff from all twelve sites attended the parade, and we were very happy to have a high number of 21st CCLC students and families join us. The weather was incredible and the experience was fun and exciting for all parties involved. We would like to extend our thanks to Intown Manchester and all of the people involved in making this event a success. Please join us for next year's parade!

Program Status
In May of 2009, the 21st CCLC afterschool program was awarded another five year competitive grant from the New Hampshire Department of Education in 2009 to fund our original "9-site" program. These sites include four elementary schools (Bakersville, Gossler Park, Hallsville, and McDonough), four middle schools (Hillside, McLaughlin, Parkside, and Southside), and one high school (Central). In May of 2011, Beech and Wilson were awarded a second round of funding for five years and Northwest Elementary School was added as a new site.
The guiding principle of our program is "Changing Lives Through Balance". Each of our sites offers a balance of academics, art, recreation, and wellness activities to appeal to and benefit a wide base of Manchester students.
All of our schools participate in service learning projects where students apply the knowledge they gain during the day to tackle community issues they see around them. Learn more about service learning at servicelearning.org and ysa.org.
Having completed our second year as a Supplemental Educational Services (SES) provider, we've been able to provide intensive tutoring to over 140 students across six elementary schools. We are very happy with the student gains we have seen and look forward to providing this service in 2011-2012.
