History
In 2004, the Manchester School District (MSD) was awarded grant funding from the NH Department of Education to establish a high-quality, arts-based afterschool program in nine schools. This award, which covered five years of programming, allowed for the establishment of the "nine-site" program, which included four elementary schools (Bakersville, Gossler Park, Hallsville, and McDonough), four middle schools (Hillside, McLaughlin, Parkside, and Southside), and Central High School. Beech and Wilson Elementary Schools were added in 2006. Northwest Elementary School was added in 2011.
The original nine-site program was awarded funding in June 2009 to continue providing high-quality afterschool programming for another five years. Beech and Wilson received funding in May 2011 to continue their program.
The program has provided well over 300 distinct activities and engages over 1,000 students per day and 2,000 students annually at twelve Manchester schools. The 21st CCLC offers a variety of options to these students including programming focused on the arts, academic achievement, health and wellness, and recreation
