On Saturday 11/29/08 at approximately 8:30AM the Manchester Police responded to 304 Cypress Street to investigate the report of a bullet being fired into an apartment at that address. The responding officers spoke with the residents of that apartment and confirmed that a bullet was fired into the apartment. The bullet penetrated a second floor window before lodging into an interior wall. The responding officers were able to identify where the bullet had been fired from. They were able to determine that it came from another apartment within the same structure.

Manchester Police officers were able to identify and speak with the residents that were in the apartment where the bullet had been fired from. During the course of the investigation a 9mm Beretta Pistol and a 5.56 mm Vulcan Arms V15 assault rifle were turned over to the police as part of the investigation. Although the investigation is ongoing, it is being treated at this time as an accidental discharge.

On 11-25-08 at approximately 8:05 PM, Manchester Police spotted a subject wanted on a warrant in connection with a robbery that occurred at a city market last week. The officers had observed the suspect in the passenger seat of a passing vehicle. The vehicle was stopped in the area of Union St and Auburn St and the suspect taken into custody without further incident. He was identified as:

Ryan Freeman

18 years old

199 Manchester St

Manchester, NH

Freeman has been charged with one count of Robbery in connection with an incident first reported to police on 11-17-08 at approximately 6:15 PM when police responded to a report of an armed robbery at Bastian’s Market at 158 Spruce St. The clerk told police that a man had entered the store and pointed a handgun at him demanding cash.

As a result of an investigation into that incident, Manchester Police Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Freeman and obtain a warrant for his arrest.

Police also determined that the vehicle in which Freeman was a passenger had been reported stolen out of Manchester on 11-24-08. Subsequently, the operator of that vehicle was arrested and identified as:

Jeremy Varnado

29 years old

248 Green St

Manchester NH

He was charged with Receiving Stolen Property.

On 11-23-08 at approximately 1:50 PM, Manchester Police responded to the Great Wall Chinese restaurant at 168 Amory St for a robbery that had just occurred. On arrival, they met with the owners who reported to police that a man had just robbed the couple at gunpoint.

According to the owners, they had just opened the restaurant and were prepping food near the front when the suspect entered, jumped over the counter and pointed a handgun at the couple. He directed the them to the rear of the restaurant and then returned to the front counter, removing cash from the register and disabling the phone, before fleeing the restaurant on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect is described as a White Male, 20-30- years old, 5’8 to 5’9" tall with blond hair and fair skin. He was wearing a long sleeve blue shirt and blue jeans and a blue camouflage bandana covered his face.  He was armed with a black handgun.

On 11-20-08 at approximately 6:15 PM, Manchester Police responded to the AK&A Mini Market at 147 Kelly St for a robbery that had just occurred. On arrival, they met with the female clerk who advised that two armed men had entered the store demanding money and cigarettes. They left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspects are described as White Males in their twenties. One subject was described as approximately 5’6" tall wearing a black jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a dark hat. The second subject was approximately 5’8" tall wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with white lettering on the front, blue jeans and white sneakers. He also carried at black backpack.

Both men were reportedly armed with handguns, wore gloves and covered their faces. No one was hurt in the incident. On 11-19-08 at about 1:10 PM, Manchester Police responded to N&N Express at 230 Lowell St for an armed robbery. On arrival, they met with the 40 year old clerk who reported that a man, armed with a handgun, had entered the store and demanded cash. When the clerk did not immediately comply, the suspect jumped over the counter and a brief struggle with the clerk ensued. The suspect ultimately left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect is described as a WM, 5’3" to 5’5" tall, 20-30 years old, with light skin and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a red leather sports jacket with black sleeves with white lettering or designs, baggy blue jeans and white sneakers. He wore a black knit cap on his head and a black bandana with white designs covered his face. He was last seen running easterly on Lowell St from the store.

On 11-17-08 at about 6:15 PM, Manchester Police responded to Bastian’s Market at 158 Spruce St for a reported armed robbery. On arrival, they met with the 45 year-old clerk who reported that a man had just robbed the store at gunpoint.

According to the clerk, the man had entered the store and approached the counter, pointing a black semi-automatic handgun at the clerk and demanding the cash. The suspect fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was hurt in the incident.

The suspect is described as a White Male in his early twenties, approximately 5’5" tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a black leather jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt. The hood was pulled up and a dark colored bandana covered his face. He was also wearing white pants and orange gloves.

On 11-15-08 at approximately 4:15 PM, Manchester Police responded to 181 Laurel St for a domestic dispute between two brothers. On arrival, Ofc. Nardone met with a forty-two year old man outside the address who stated that he had been involved in a verbal dispute with his older brother, identified as:

Robert Cartier

The dispute was over Robert’s decision to pawn a lamp. According to the complainant, there had been no physical altercation between the brothers.

Ofc. Nardone then went inside the residence to speak with Cartier, locating him inside a bedroom in the apartment. When Ofc. Nardone entered the bedroom, he observed Cartier look at him and then place a small metal pipe into his mouth, lighting the end of that pipe with a lighter. The officer determined Cartier was smoking marijuana and subsequently placed him under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Drug. He was additionally charged with a second count of Possession of a Controlled Drug when the white powdery substance the officer observed on Cartier’s dresser was determined to be cocaine.
