Planning and Community Development

On March 1, 2009 the Building and Planning Departments were merged into one department called the Planning and Community Development Department. This will provide a smoother application process for developers, contractors and homeowners alike in that it will allow for “one-stop-shopping”. Change in office hours effective 9/7/10 - Monday, August 23, 2010

Effective 9/7/10, the Planning and Community Development Department will be changing office hours to better accommodate contractors and the general public. The office will be open from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Calls for structural inspections will be taken from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM (for south and east side locations) and 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM (for north and west side locations). The structural inspectors will be in the office during those times and also from 4:00 to 4:30 PM if you wish to speak with them.

Home Improvement Projects – Permits Required - Friday, April 23, 2010

The Planning and Community Development Department would like to remind homeowners that home improvement projects require permits before any work is initiated. These include interior and exterior projects (ie. additions, decks, fences, paving/repaving, roofing, sheds, siding, window replacement, etc.) In addition, any plumbing, heating or electrical work being done requires a permit.

Swimming pools also require permits. Any pool which is under 52” in height requires fencing to enclose the pool area. This also includes “Soft Pools.”

If you are planning on doing some work around the house and are not sure whether or not a permit is required, please call the Planning and Community Development Department at 603-624-6450 or stop by our office Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
