Asian Longhorned Beetle                                                         

 

The Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB), a serious non-native pest deadly to many hardwood tree species, was found in Worcester, Massachusetts in August of 2008. Many trees have had to be cut down and destroyed there since this is the only effective means to date to control and eliminate ALB. 

 

Surrounding states have been on the alert to see if ALB has spread. To help prevent this spread, if you burn firewood, please only use local firewood and don’t transport it from place to place.

If you see either an ALB or evidence of an infestation (click on attachments) please try to collect a beetle in a jar, put it in the freezer and notify any of the following federal, state or local offices:
