Manchester Weed & Seed Strategy Structure
As a collaborative effort, the Manchester Weed & Seed (W&S) Strategy is both comprehensive and intentional about the efforts and programming that it implements in the city. The work of reducing gangs, drugs, and overall violence is facilitated through a Steering Committee and smaller, focused Subcommittees. We encourage all residents, organizations, and businesses of Manchester to get involved in their community. STEERING COMMITTEE
|
The Steering Committee is the primary organizational body governing the W&S Strategy. It convenes key stakeholders, identifies the areas of greatest need, facilitates the collaboration of the stakeholders through both Steering and the Subcommittees, develops strategic plans, identifies the roles and commitments of the partners, mobilizes new and existing resources to implement goals and objectives, establishes and tracks accountability measures, balances weeding and seeding efforts, and provides oversight for the W&S Strategy.

PLANNING COMMITTEE
| The Planning Committee acts as an advisory group for the W&S Strategy to assess issues and potential strategies that have been prioritized by the Steering Committee, as well as to assist with special projects for the Strategy. The Planning Committee has a set membership that consists of the Weed & Seed Strategy Coordinator, residents, the United States Attorney’s Office New Hampshire, Subcommittee Chairs and Co-Chairs, and a representative from each of the Safe Havens. |
LAW ENFORCEMENT/COMMUNITY POLICING
|
The Law Enforcement/Community Policing Subcommittee includes the Manchester Police Department’s Community Policing Division and other law enforcement partners, and currently focuses on both the “weeding” and the “seeding” portion of the Strategy.

PREVENTION, INTERVENTION, AND TREATMENT (PIT)
 |
The PIT Subcommittee addresses the risk and protective factors associated with drug abuse, violence, and crime to meet the needs of the community. This includes coordinated efforts of law enforcement, social services agencies, youth services, and residents. Current efforts of the PIT Subcommittee include the Know Your Neighbor Block Party initiative, Inspired Recovery, Wraparound for Youth Resiliency (WYR), Juvenile Crime Prevention Initiative, and a Youth Mentoring Project.

NEIGHBORHOOD RESTORATION

The Neighborhood Restoration Subcommittee is committed to revitalizing distressed neighborhoods and improving the quality of life through economic development and a revitalization of the community’s health and wellness.

MANCHESTER VIOLENCE PREVENTION TEENS (MVP TEENS)
 |
The Manchester Violence Prevention (MVP) Teen Council provides the community with a youth perspective on the effects of violence and promotes violence prevention education in order to create a safer community.

SAFE HAVENS
Safe Havens are multiservice centers in which a variety of youth and adult services are coordinated in a highly visible and accessible facility. Manchester residents can also develop relationships, find opportunities, and enhance skills at these centers.
