State Health Officials Issue Precautions After Infant Formula Recall - Friday, December 23, 2011

State Health Officials Warn New Hampshire Residents of a Ground Beef Recall - Friday, December 16, 2011

Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is urging New Hampshire residents not to eat ground beef that has been recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination. The ground beef was sold at Hannaford stores here in New Hampshire, as well as in Maine, Massachusetts, New York and Vermont. The various packages are labeled with sell-by dates of December 17, 2011 or earlier.

October Is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month - Wednesday, October 19, 2011

10/18/2011-Concord, NH – National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual campaign organized by major breast cancer charities and other organizations to increase awareness and to stress the importance of early detection. The Let No Woman Be Overlooked Program at the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings to women who meet recommended screening guidelines, live in New Hampshire, are between the ages of 18 and 64, are uninsured or underinsured, and have a limited income.

DHHS Warns of Potential Scam - Wednesday, October 19, 2011

10/18/2011 Concord,  NH  –  The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Family Assistance (DFA) is alerting residents about a potential  scam.  DHHS received reports of ads on the internet. These ads have been seen alongside legitimate articles, and claim to offer assistance to people filling out applications for Food Stamps.

West Nile Virus (WNV) Found in Additional Manchester Mosquitoes - Friday, September 09, 2011

09/08/2011 Manchester, NH – The Manchester Health Department announced today that a batch of mosquitoes collected in Manchester on August 29, 2011 have tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV).

According to Tim Soucy, MPH, Manchester’s Public Health Director, "We want to remind all of the residents of Manchester to continue to take steps to prevent being bitten by mosquitoes and to eliminate standing water on their property. With all of the recent rain, it is imperative that we eliminate mosquito breeding areas to help reduce the risk."

DHHS Issues Food Safety Advice Regarding Flooded Crops - Thursday, September 08, 2011

09/08/2011 Concord - In conjunction with the NH Department of Agriculture which advised farmers to destroy or discard all crops with edible portions that have come in contact with flood waters after Tropical Storm Irene, the NH Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Public Health Services is advising people with home gardens that were flooded to follow U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidance.

West Nile Virus (WNV) Found in Manchester Mosquitoes - Wednesday, August 10, 2011

08/10/11 Manchester, NH – The Manchester Health Department announced today that two batches of mosquitoes collected in Manchester on August 1, 2011 have tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV).

According to Tim Soucy, MPH, Manchester’s Public Health Director, “Although the finding of WNV in the community is not unexpected, this is a good time to remind residents to be vigilant in eliminating mosquito breeding areas and to take simple steps such as using effective mosquito repellent and wearing long pants and sleeves at dusk and dawn to prevent being bitten by mosquitoes.”

The Manchester Health Department Announces the Elimination of STD/HIV Clinics - Thursday, June 30, 2011

06/30/2011 - The Manchester Health Department regretfully announces that effective July 1, 2011, STD/HIV clinics will no longer be offered at the Manchester Health Department.

Due to funding reductions from the State of New Hampshire, comprehensive sexually transmitted disease (STD) services including confidential diagnosis, testing and treatment as well as confidential HIV testing and counseling will no longer be offered.

Clients in the Manchester area seeking STD/HIV services should contact their primary care provider or their local community health center, emergency department or urgent care center.
