Recruit School
All newly hired recruits are put through a 14 week training course. These fourteen weeks consists of a daily-supervised fitness program, and a full day of either classroom and/or practical exercises.
Classes such as:
Building Collapse,
Swiftwater Rescue,
Emergency Response to Terrorism,
Rapid Intervention Team,
LPG Fires,
Vehicle Rescue and many other aspects of firefighting are taught during this time.
The Manchester Fire Department Recruit School is mandatory for all recruits whether or not you have prior
firefighting experience. The recruit school is designed to enhance firefighting skills as well as familiarize the recruits with the equipment used and apparatus of Manchester Fire.
After recruit training, recruits will undergo a one-year probationary period while working on the fire line. For information on becoming a firefighter please see our
