On March 1, 2009 the Building and Planning Departments were merged into one department called the Planning and Community Development Department. This will provide a smoother application process for developers, contractors and homeowners alike in that it will allow for “one-stop-shopping”. All contact numbers will remain the same. For Building Department inquiries (permits, variances, code enforcement) please call 603-624-6475. The Planning Department can be reached at 603-624-6450 for conditional use permits, subdivision applications, mergers, CIP projects, etc.

Welcome to the City of Manchester, NH Building Department.

Our department is responsible for:

Building Code administration including building plan review and permit approval; field inspections and record maintenance; code review and update;

Permit application processing - Building, Electrical, Heating, Plumbing, Signs , Yard Sales;

Zoning Ordinance administration including site plan review, Zoning Board of Adjustment appeals, site inspections and variance applications;

Housing Code Ordinance administration including Certificate of Compliance program and rental property inspections;

Certificates of Occupancy.

On September 4, 2001 the City of Manchester updated its Building Code, adopting the 2000 editions of the International Building Code, International Mechanical Code, International Residential Code and the International Fuel Gas Code.

On September 5, 2006 the 2005 edition of the National Electrical Code was adopted and the 2000 edition of the International Plumbing Code was adopted on November 17, 2006.
