Posted On: 02/13/2008 -

A Steering Committee of the Planning Board is working with the Planning staff to develop a new Master Plan for the City. A master plan provides a vision for the future development of the City and forms the basis for the City’s Zoning Ordinance. The Plan was last prepared in 1993 and many of its recommendations have been adopted such as – the transformation of the Millyard into a high tech business center and the revitalization of the downtown.

With input from a number of citizens and focus groups, the new plan will focus on areas such as sustainability, walkability, neighborhoods and economic vitality. A draft of eight of the sections of the plan are available online on this website. Another ten sections are expected to be finalized in the next few months and will be made available on this website. City Announces New Public GIS Map Viewer

Posted On: 01/31/2008 -

A new publicly-available online map viewer can now be accessed from the City's web site. Designed for residential as well as business usage, this viewer provides dynamic tools for accessing and manipulating location-based data in the Manchester, NH area.

Map information is based on GIS data sets compiled and maintained by various City departments. "GIS" stands for "geographic information system", which is a computer-based mapping system for capturing, storing, analyzing and managing location-based data and associated attributes. GIS makes it possible to work with one or more types of geographically-referenced features, commonly referred to as "layers", at a known place or within a defined area. Examples of such layers include roads, water bodies, parcels, wards, utility systems, aerial images, topography, and more. A GIS also provides ways to easily view and examine relationships between these layers.

This map viewer offers many capabilities including searching, zooming, panning, measuring, identifying, and printing. Several pre-defined "Quick Maps" are available for parcels, aerial images, zoning districts, voting wards, utility information, park areas, and more. Parcel-based data including assessing information, image, and propert taxes is provided for one or more parcels selected by the user. Online help is also provided.
