On Wednesday February 23, at approximately 3:25pm, members of the Manchester Police Department responded to 308 Highland St for a reported burglary in progress.  The homeowners, Jon and Jolene Stevens, reported that they had just returned home with their newborn.  Upon entering their residence, they observed a burglar inside.  The burglar, who carried a cardboard box presumably containing items stolen from the home, fled in a southerly direction.  Officers were provided with a physical description of the suspect and began a search of the area for him.

Officer John Cunningham conducted a K-9 track for the suspect.  The track led the officer to the area of 611 Amherst St.  Shortly thereafter the officer observed a taxi cab arrive in the area.  Officer Cunningham observed a subject, matching the description provided by the victim and carrying a similar cardboard box, exit 611 Amherst St and enter the cab

Officer Cunningham observed a subject, matching the description provided by the victim and carrying a similar cardboard box, exit 611 Amherst St and enter the cab.  Based on this observation, Officer Cunningham stopped the cab and made contact with the subject.  He identified the subject as Shawn Stayrook 27 years of age, of 735 Amherst St.

The investigation revealed that Stayrook was in possession of items taken from the victims' residence.  The cardboard box Stayrook carried matched the exact description provided by the victims.  It was determined that the box and it's contents had been taken from the victims' residence.  As a result, Stayrook was placed under arrest for Burglary and Receiving Stolen Property.  He was later identified, by the victims, in a photo line-up.

Stayrook is currently being held at the Hillsborough County Jail.  He was further charged with Resisting Detention and Criminal Trespass, after it was determined that he had attempted to conceal himself from the police within 611 Amherst St, without the permission or knowledge of the resident there.  A 72 hour hold was placed on Stayrook, pending his arraignment.
