Effective January 1, 2008, New Hampshire passed an act permitting same gender couples to enter civil unions and have the same rights, responsibilities, and obligations as married couples. Therefore, the City of Manchester will recognize Civil Unions for insurance purposes. Also, the employee has 31 days from the date of the civil union to enroll their partner on their insurance, otherwise they will need to wait until the next open enrollment. As the City of Manchester requires a marriage certificate to cover a dependent spouse, a copy of the Civil Union Agreement will also be required to cover a civil union partner.
