Jurisdiction for Reviewing Building & Demolition Permits


Heritage Commission or Millyard Design Review Committee?

Jurisdiction for MOST OUTDOOR CONSTRUCTION and SIGNAGE ACTIVITIES:

  • Building permit applications for most outdoor construction and signage activities in the Amoskeag Corporation Housing Historic District falls under the jurisdiction of the Heritage Commission. [see City of Manchester Zoning Ordinance, Article 7.05(C)]

  • Building permit applications for most outdoor construction and signage activities in the Amoskeag Millyard Historic District and in the AMX zoning district falls under the jurisdiction of the Millyard Design Review Committee. [see City of Manchester Zoning Ordinance, Article 7.01(D)]

Jurisdiction for ALL DEMOLITION ACTIVITIES:

  • All demolition permit applications for activities taking place in either the Amos-keag Corporation Housing or the Amoskeag Millyard Historic District fall under the jurisdiction of the Heritage Commission. [see City of Manchester Zoning Ordinance, Article 7.05(D.1 & D.2)]

    Any question related to whether a building permit is needed for any proposed building, construction or demolition activity – or whether a building permit application is subject to review by the Heritage Commission or the Millyard Design Review Committee for any property located in the Amoskeag Corporation Housing Historic District, the Amoskeag Millyard Historic District or the AMX district – should be directed to the City of Manchester Building Department.
