Other Projects
The PCD Department is involved in a variety of planning and development projects. The following is an example of some of these:
Design Guidelines
Hackett Hill Land Preserve. A major parcel of land totaling 342 acres has been set aside as a preserve in the area formerly owned by UNH Manchester. The Department is working with the Manchester Economic Development Office and Environmental Protection Division to secure ownership of additional parcel to add to the preserve.
Senior Center. The City is planning to develop a new Senior Center. Currently a site is being reviewed to determine feasibility and costs for a Center at that location.
Zoning Ordinance “Lookback”. In 2001, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen adopted a totally new zoning ordinance for the City. At the time of adoption, the Board asked our department to bring back a review of the new ordinance and fine-tuning of the new provisions.
Millyard Redevelopment. Although the Millyard has come a long way since the 1970’s, this area continues to have additional opportunities. The Department is assisting in planning for the Riverwalk, looking at the potential for a baseball stadium along the river, working with individual mill owners to revitalize their buildings and participating with the Hands Across the Merrimack committee in rebuilding the trestle bridge into a pedestrian walkway.
Signage. The City is developing a comprehensive signage package to replace the large number scattered directional signage and to help the increasing number of visitors to find key landmarks and facilities in the City.
Cohas Fire Station. Design has been completed on a new Fire Station on East Industrial Park Drive which will serve the southeast portion of the City.
School improvements. Assisting the Highway Department and the School District in developing a comprehensive renovation and addition program to all of the schools in the district.
