Youth Programs

The Parks, Recreation & Cemetery Department offers a number of Youth Programs, some offered directly by the department, including Fun In The Sun, Summer Fun Run, Saturday Junior Basketball, and the Hershey Track Meet, and various Youth Sports Programs run by volunteers.


Fun In The Sun



The Fun In The Sun program is a summer day camp for Manchester residents ages 6 - 12.

Registration Date and Requirements:

Registration Date: Thursday July 3, 2008 8:00 AM

Must have birth certificate to register.

Youngsters MUST be 6 (Six) years of age to register.


Registration will take place at the site your child will attend.


Program Locations: JFK Coliseum, McIntyre Ski Area, Piscataquog River Park

Program Start Date: Monday July 7, 2008

Program Hours: Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Program End Date: Wednesday August 20, 2008

Participants enjoy:

  • local field trips

  • special events days such as MTV day or Christmas in July

    Summer Fun Run

    Summer Fun Runs will Thursdays - July 3, July 10th, July 17th, July 24th and July 31st, 2008 - at the Gatsas Athletic Complex in Livingston Park. Registration begins at 5:15 PM, with events beginning at 6:00 PM.


    Activities include:

    Saturday Junior Basketball

    Saturday Junior Basketball is available to boys and girls who reside in Manchester. The program runs at Hillside, Parkside, and Southside junior high schools. Starting in the program runs through Christmas and February vacation. There is no charge for this program, and applications can be picked up at the junior high schools. Different ages are grouped by times and organized as follows:

    Hershey Track Meet

    The Hershey track meet is for kids age 9-14 years old. There is no residency requirement providing that your town does not offer a meet.

    Tryouts for the (31st) Annual Hershey Track Meet will be held on Tuesday June 10, 2008 at Livingston Track. Registration is at 5:30 PM, with the actual meet beginning at 6:00 PM.

    Volunteers run the following youth sports program in the City:

    • Junior Deb Softball
