How do I become a Manchester firefighter?
In order to become eligible for a position at the Manchester Fire Department candidates must posses a CDL-B Drivers License and should be a NH Certified
Level II Firefighter and must also be a Nationally Registered EMT.

There is an eligibility list that the Chief of the Department uses to hire new firefighters. In order to be placed on that list a written exam is administered every two years. Upon successful completion of this exam, the individual will take part in a strenuous physical ability test. If you have successfully completed both tests you will then be scheduled for an oral interview. Any candidates successfully completing all three processes will be placed on the eligibility list for two years. Firefighters are selected from the list in effect. Persons interested in employment opportunities with the City of Manchester, Fire Department should contact:

The Manchester Fire Dept. can give you the estimated miles to your home from the nearest fire station, but is not able to determine hydrant distances.

Can I have a recreational fire in my back yard? Are “Chimenera” and “Coleman Bonfire” type devices permitted to be used in the City?
A. Unfortunately due to the compact nature of the residences in the City of Manchester it has been necessary to prohibit all types of recreational fires. The reasons for this vary from instance to instance however the primary reasons involve smoke and the ability to kindle a fire safely. While most people practice fire safe behavior, some don’t. As a result of the actions of a few, it has become necessary to limit the actions of all. Please feel free to contact the Fire Prevention Office (603-669-2256 ext. 3400) if you have any questions or comments.
