  • Eight PCs are available for public access to the Internet (4 Adult, 2 Children, 1 ZoomText/Word Processing and 1 Express (15 minute) machine. Call ahead to check on the waiting period. One hour of Internet time is available per person per day.


  • Seven of the PCs have word processing capabilities. One PC is set up for 2 hours, the others are set for 1 hour of word processing.


  • Vision Enhancement Assistance
      Zoom Text Software for accessing the Internet
      Aladdin Telescoping Enlarger for enlarging pages of books, newspapers, etc.


  • Photocopier @ $0.15 per copy.


  • Computer Printouts @ $0.15 per copy.


  • Meeting room(s) may be reserved by tutors and organizations for use during library hours by contacting the West Library at 624-6560 for room availability.


  • Class visits and tours are arranged on request.


  • The Boston Museum of Fine Arts discount passes, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum discount passes, and the Boston Museum of Science discount passes (all courtesy of the Friends of the West Manchester Community Library) are available to Manchester residents only. Call to reserve or reserve online, up to 60 days in advance.

Automated Services:
  • Downloadable Digital Audiobooks, are available now from your home computer! The Manchester City Library, in conjunction with the New Hampshire State Library, is excited to offer this new service. Library card holders will be able to download audiobooks to a home PC, then copy them to an MP3 player. Some titles can also be burned to CD.



  • Online Databases are available to Manchester City Library cardholders. At this site there are many databases available for your use 24/7. Patrons only need a valid (unexpired) Manchester City Library card to use these databases.



  • The Online Catalog makes it possible for you to see what materials are available at the Manchester City Library. You can also request items to be picked up at the West Manchester Community Library. If you do not have a PIN, stop by the library to get one. It's useful in order to use the Horizon Online Catalog to its fullest.



  • In Library Online Reference Databases Ancestry Library edition is only available for in library use due to licensing agreements.


  • Internet Access One hour of Internet time per patron per day is available. Call 624-6560 to find our wait time and computer availability.


  • Vision Assitance Zoom Text Computer Software to make surfing the Internet possible for those with limited vision. It has verbal assistance if needed.


  • In-House Microsoft Products and the tutorials and quickguides that correspond to each software product are available thanks to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Several Public Access Computers were also provided by this Foundation.

  • Microsoft Excel a spreadsheet program used to create budgets, schedules, and address lists.

  • FrontPage a Web page creation and management program used to design and update Web pages.

  • Encarta Reference an interactive learning tool that uses pictures, sound, video and animation to enhance its articles.

  • MapPoint a travel guide and detailed world atlas used to plan detailed driving routes through North America and locate towns and cities around the world.

  • Biography Resource Center contains over 422,000 biographies on more than 335,000 people from reference books such as Contemporary Authors, Encyclopedia of World Biography, Newsmakers, Contemporary Theatre, Film, and Television, Contemporary Musicians, Historic World Leaders, Notable Twentieth-Century Scientists, Contemporary Black Biography, Religious Leaders of America, International Dictionary of Art and Artists, and Writers Directory. This database also contains more than 538,000 full-text articles from nearly 300 magazines including American History, The Christian Century, Saturday Night, and U.S. News & World Report.

  • Business and Company Resource Center a database to assist business researchers find company profiles, histories, and chronologies, as well as information on industry associations, trade groups, labor unions, products, brands and industry snapshots and market reports.

  • Concord Monitor Online
    This database contains most text from the Concord Monitor from January 1, 2002 to today. Paid advertisements (including many obituaries) are not included.

  • EBSCO a set of databases containing general interest magazine articles, scholarly journal articles, health information, business information, online newspapers, reference texts, magazines for children, the Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, and information for educators.

  • HeritageQuest Genealogy Online HeritageQuest Genealogy Online
    provides: complete information from the US Federal Census Records from 1790-1930; information from more than 25,000 family and local history books; an index to many local history and genealogy periodicals published since 1800, and selected records from the Revolutionary War Era Pension and Bounty-Land Warrant Application Files.

  • Literature Databases contain information from Gale's Contemporary Authors and Contemporary Literary Criticism. Contemporary Authors and Contemporary Literary Criticism cover authors who have done most of their important work from 1900 until today.

  • Novelist a database for fiction readers to use to find a favorite author, title, topic, or genre (for example mystery, science fiction, or horror) to learn about books they will enjoy reading.

  • Novelist K-8 allows children in grades Kindergarten through 8 to identify fiction titles they will enjoy reading. This is a great database for children and parents to use together.

  • Reference USA a database of information on U.S. businesses and households. It is especially useful for job searches, people starting businesses, and marketing professionals.

  • SIRS Government Reporter a database of full-text government documents and graphics concerning a wide variety of topics. Also included U.S. Supreme Court decisions, directory of the Justices; Federal Agency and U.S. Congress Directories; Country Profiles, National Archives Documents; Historic Documents, information with photographs or portraits of each U.S. President.

  • SIRS Renaissance ‘Current Perspectives on the Arts & Humanities’ provides dynamic information on Architecture & Design, Culture, Literature, Multimedia, Music, Performing Arts, Philosophy & Religion and Visual Arts. Include: Literary Corner – which is comprised of Literary Profiles, Literary Criticism, a Glossary of Critical Terms and The New Lifetime Reading Plan; Award Recipients,, Glossary of the Arts; Notable People, Recommended References, and eBooks.

  • Student Resource Center is a full text database for Junior High and High School Students, providing magazine and newspaper articles, biographies, topical essays, background information, critical analyses, primary documents, photographs, illustrations, and video clips. It is a great source of information for homework help and information for student projects.

  • Union Leader Online a database containing most text from the Union Leader from January 1, 1989 to today. Paid advertisements (including many obituaries)are not included.

Adult, Teen and Children's Periodicals
Magazines may be taken out for 2 weeks, except for the lastest issue which must stay in the library until the next issue arrives. A total of 10 magazines maybe taken out, though only 6 of one title. The library keeps a backfile of each title for 3 years, except if otherwise indicated.

  • World Book Encyclopedia a universe of sights and sounds to research and explore. Homework wizards, an atlas, a dictionary and Time Frame features add to the usefullness of this database.

  • Law Disk a high quality information for legal and law related research for New Hampshire State Law information.

  • Grangers Poetry Columbia Granger's Poetry Database contains works of poetry found in anthologies, and volumes of collected works and selected works for individual poets. More than 400,000 poem citations and more than 50,000 full text poems.
