The Board of Mayor and Aldermen is the legislative body of the City of Manchester. This Board consists of a Mayor and fourteen Aldermen, twelve of whom represent individual wards and two of whom are elected at-large. As the governing body, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BMA) sets law and policies for the City.

Regular meetings of the BMA are held in the Aldermanic Chambers located on the 3rd floor of City Hall at 7:30 PM on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, except during the months of June, July, August and September when the regular meetings are held only on the first Tuesday of the month. Public Participation sessions are held at 7:00 PM prior to each Board meeting to allow citizens of Manchester the opportunity to address the Board on items of concern.

Items for the Board's consideration are directed to the Office of the City Clerk which prepares agendas for the Board, its nine standing committees and special committees. Weekly schedules and agendas are usually posted by 5:00 PM the Friday before the meeting, and are available to the public through the Office of the City Clerk. Postings of meetings sometimes occur only 24 hours in advance of a meeting.
