Under New Hampshire law, certain older records are open to the public, while other, more recent records are only available when the applicant has a "direct and tangible interest" in the record. The individual or an immediate member of the family may obtain a copy of a vital record in this category.
The records in the Manchester City Archives are open to the public in the following categories:
BIRTH RECORDS: Prior to 1901
DEATH RECORDS: Prior to 1948
MARRIAGE RECORDS: Prior to 1948
To obtain a copy of a vital record, please remit a money order or bank check (OUT OF STATE CHECKS ARE NOT ACCEPTED) in the amount of $12.00 (payable to the City of Manchester) with a letter stating the purpose of the request and supplying all available information on the individual being researched. If the record is not found, the office will retain the $12.00 for each record requested, and notify you that the record was not found. Please enclose a copy of your photo identification. Send to:
