With a few exceptions, marriage records for individuals married in New Hampshire are available only from the City or Town Clerk in the community where the intentions were filed and not where they were married or from the New Hampshire Bureau of Vital Records, 71 South Fruit Street, Concord, NH 03301. Marriage certificates for individuals who filed their intention to marry in Manchester can be obtained from the Office of the City Clerk located at One City Hall Plaza.

| Confidentiality |
|
Marriage records are considered private and confidential, with access limited to those individuals who have a "direct and tangible" interest in the record. The only exception are marriage records prior to 1948 which are considered public and are open to the public.
Copies of marriage records may only be obtained by the registrant, a member of his/her immediate family, or a representative with a "direct and tangible interest" such as an attorney. In order to determine if the "legal representative" may have access to the record, the direct and tangible interest must be listed in any written correspondence with a copy of such legal document being provided.
